One of the busiest rooms of the Fitchburg Public Library, the Garden Room, had new carpet tiles installed Monday thanks to a handful of private donors.

According to library Director Sharon Bernard, the carpet in the Garden Room of the Youth Library was nearly 20 years old and several stains had accumulated during its lifespan.

“The Garden Room carpet, although clean, was so stained it was depressing,” said Bernard. “Having the new carpet shows the library users, including the children, that we care about them.”

Bernard said the room is used nearly every day, from children’s programs, many adult and teen programs, and staff meetings.

“There are often 20- plus events in the room each week,” she said.

The renovation was made possible by $ 5,000 worth of private donations from Enterprise Bank, Fidelity Bank, IC Credit Union, Rollstone Bank, Workers’ Credit Union, and Stephen J. Twining, a citizen who wanted to help the library in some way.

“This is a perfect example of shopping, doing business, local is important,” said Bernard. “They are all financial institu- tions with the interests of the communities they serve at their core. Donations such as theirs show their commitment to all of us.”

Amico Flooring of Fitchburg completed the work for the library. Bernard said the library went with carpet tiles because they would be easily replaced if one gets damaged in the future.

“ We are very happy with how it looks,” she added.
